Social Robotics
What is Social Robotics?
Robots are built as a solution to a wide variety of needs and to fulfill different purposes. Typically, are designed for specific tasks which traditionally performed by a human. Many aspects of robotics have already involved artificial intelligence to provide more capability to make simple adaptive decisions
Implications
Robots have a broad variety of use cases in almost every branch which makes them the ideal technology for the future. We will likely see robots almost everywhere in the future. Besides manufacturing, we might soon see them in our healthcare services, hotels, restaurant, or even on the roads.
For example, in one of our projects, we have been funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, a robot learning assistant for children with autism spectrum disorder (or ASD). Tests have shown that people with ASD show great interest in technology and react more positively towards computers and tablets compared to other humans. The use of robotics technology has become an alternative treatment for people with ASD. It shows that robots can be an affordable, user-friendly, and universally available technology.
Benefits
The use of robotics technology has proven to be a great supplemental in several sectors not limited to manufacturing anymore but also become more popular in other fields. In health services, for instance, has the technology proven to be a great supplemental and complement to the lack of health service personnel. In the near future, the technology might create flexible and effective treatment methods that are affordable, user-friendly, and universally available for everyone.
